Devour! The Food Film Fest 2017

In a little over a month from now, the Devour! food and film festival will provide you with one more reason, not that you need one, to visit beautiful Nova Scotia from October 25-29. The festival was created by world class chef Michael Howell on the ideals of the slow food movement, which encourages cooking with natural ingredients grown and farmed locally in order to support local businesses and cultures. Fast forward seven years later, Devour! has grown into the largest festival in the world devoted to food and film. The festival is also committed to supporting education and works with Faculty and student chefs invited from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Vancouver, Toronto’s George Brown College, and nearby Acadia University and Nova Scotia Community College. So it just makes sense that the Toronto launch party would take place at George Brown College’s student run Chef’s House restaurant. We had the pleasure of attending and were treated to hand crafted drinks and very generous samples of Sea Scallop with bacon and Lobster taco. There will be 99 events this year including 23 Culinary events lead by celebrated chefs Jacques Pépin, Michael Smith, Bob Blumer, and Mark Greenaway. Canadian Film icon Gordon Pinsent will open Devour! and present the first of 72 films that will be screened in 5 days. The films screened will include premieres and will star well-known actors and actresses such as Salma Hayek, John Lithgow, Richard Gere, and Laura Linney to name a few. The festival is held in Wolfville, Nova Soctia, which is a one-hour-shuttle-drive away from Halifax and Stanfield International Airport and a thriving agricultural and wine region.
