The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is celebrating 40 years of showcasing the best films from around the world. This year it ran from September 10 – 20, 2015 and left no doubt that it will continue to be a leader in the industry for another 40 years. Congratulations TIFF and the following films that won awards:
The Grolsch People’s Choice Award went to the Room (Ireland/Canada), a drama directed by Lenny Abrahamson. It tells the story of Ma (Brie Larson) and her son, Jack (Jacob Tremblay), who she bears and raises in captivity. Once they manage to escape, they experience a new obstacle of adjusting to freedom.
The Canada Goose Award for Best Canadian Feature Film went to The Closet Monster, a drama making its world premiere. Directed by Stephen Dunn, it tells the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup), a high school student hiding his homosexuality from his judgmental father and community.
